The Opening of the new facilities was attended by 18 members and 6 members’ wives; and 16 guests. The new facilities comprised a disabled shower/toilet block, a dividing wall between two ranges to allow different matches to be shot concurrently on adjacent ranges, and improvements to water and electricity supplies. A total of $78000 was spent made up of $64000 in State Government grants and $14000 from Fraser Coast Pistol Club Inc. funds.

George SeymourGuests included Councillor George Seymour who was nominated by Minister Bill Byrne to open the facilities; Councillor Gerard O’Connell, Mayor FCRC; Councillor Trevor McDonald; Anne Maddern former Member for Maryborough; Michele Sandstrom Pistol Shooting Queensland (PSQ) President; 5 other PSQ Board members including Ross Patching, Roy Facey, Sam Cristaudo, Elaine Gilliver and Sharyn Petersen; Paul Freyer representing Member for Maryborough, Bruce Saunders MLA; and Janine Pay Advisor Department of Sport and Recreation.

Also present were Peter and Pam Carter, Life Members of the Club, and who were largely responsible for the establishment of FCPC Inc. in 1991. Pam brought photos of early years at the Club and these are on display at the Range.

Apologies were received from the Hon Bill Byrne MLA, Minister for Sport and Racing, Bruce Saunders MLA, Councillor Darren Everard, Ted Sorrenson MLA Member for Hervey Bay and the Hon Warren Truss MP, Deputy Prime Minister, Federal Member for Wide Bay and Patron of Pistol Shooting Queensland.

The day commenced at 10.30am with morning tea organised by Ian and John . Tea and coffee were provided as well as containers of cold water complete with refreshing lemon slices and a selection of biscuits etc. This provided the opportunity for members and guests to arrive prior to the formalities which commenced at 11am. President Tony welcomed those present and introduced our special guests.

This was followed by an address from Michele Sandstrom about the sport of pistol shooting and its applicability to disabled athletes. Councillor Gerard O’Connell spoke of the importance of the facilities at FCPC Inc. to the Fraser Coast region. Anne Maddern then formally handed over the Queensland flag which she presented to the Club in 2014, to President Tony. Tony then introduced Councillor George Seymour who formally opened the new facilities. This was followed by a Vote of Thanks to the speakers by Life Member Peter Carter.

Members and guests were then entertained by Lillian ,wife of Life Member Neil, who penned and delivered a verse titled “Opening Day” to commemorate the wall and “Loo”. A copy of this poem is on the Notice Board at the Range and has been sent to all members with email.

Members, their wives and guests then inspected the new disabled toilet/shower block and range dividing wall. This was followed by a delicious lunch organised by Ian and John who did a superb job of decorating and setting up the tables, and preparing the platters of food.

Members and some guests then participated in sport pistol and metallic silhouette matches shot concurrently for the first time on both sides of the new dividing wall.

Channel 9 WIN News sent a camera crew to record the occasion and this went to air on Wednesday 22 April 2015. We thank Channel 9 for an excellent coverage.
